Man creates Vine video to propose to girlfriend

Somedays the Internet just makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside. One day, the feeling could overwhelm you when you’re running through a Tumblr full of cats posing adorably and another day, you could feel that way watching a couple of twin toddlers swing along cutely to their dad playing the guitar. This time it's a simple six-second proposal that has the Internet exhaling with a collective “aww”.

Curt Buthman, a Business Consultant from Los Angeles, took to Vine to send out the first ever proposal using the six-second video sharing app to girlfriend Marsha Collier. The proposal was short and sweet considering the time constraints. “Marsha, I love you very much. Will you marry me, please? Please?” an excited Buthman said in the video while holding up a ring.

The proposal seemed apt considering Buthman’s girlfriend Collier is an author who writes about social media. Buthman tweeted his proposal out to her while she was in the middle of a customer service Twitter chat. “@marshacollier I love you! #WillYouMarryMe  <3 #custserv”, he wrote. The video caused hashtags #WillYouMarryMe and #custserv – which happened to be the one Collier used for her chat – to trend.

Collier took less than five minutes to reply with an “Uhm, uh, YES… I will marry you!” to Buthman. The proposal went viral just like the hashtags did and congratulatory tweets from all over the world poured in for the happy couple.

For those who’re feeling warm and fuzzy about the entire story, the couple has created a Storify and Scribd to take you through the journey of the proposal chronologically. Collier realises that this is a landmark event for social media. “Bringing a new meaning to social media engagement #WillYouMarryMe,” she tweeted. Well, if the engagement created such waves in the social world, we only hope they have something more spectacular lined up for the wedding itself. Could we be seeing multiple Vines from the venue?
