Education tech company, Kno might be giving Farmville a run for its money. The company is making a Facebook app where students can not only buy, but also rent their textbooks. These textbooks must then be read in the browser. Kno also has an educational ebook store for the iPad where students are able to purchase textbooks. The Facebook version isn't as interactive as the iPad version, but Kno says it's working on more interactive features for Facebook.
Educational social networking
Kno had a rocky start as a company. It started out with a dual screen tablet, which didn't do well and they sold off their hardware division. They then emerged as a software company with their services for the iPad. Now they're integrating their service into social networking. It is an inspired idea, especially the ability to rent an ebook on Facebook. Given the number of students who use Facebook and hate buying expensive textbooks, this move only seemed logical.
