Arguably one of the best features of the iPhone 4S is its camera, apart from Siri. The handset features an 8MP sensor that is capable of shooting crisp images in most lighting conditions and from our comparison done a little while back, the phone did not fare too badly in comparison with a good point and shoot compact camera. At the time of the iPhone 4S announcement, this camera placed on this smartphone was set to rival point and shoot cameras, but what good is the iPhone 4S without a camera? According to a report by Jakarta Global, three telecom operators in Singapore are set to launch this handset without either camera designed for military personnel.
No-camera feature to be found on some iPhone 4S' in Singapore
The report states that one telecom operator in Singapore, M1, had posted an online advertisement for the iPhone 4S with no camera and set the price for the 64GB model at ‘more than $900 with a fresh two year contract.’ It is believed that this handset is designed for those who serve in the Singapore army as they are not allowed to have handsets with cameras. Thereby some of them own two handsets. When M1 was contacted by the website, they did not comment on the pricing but stated that the cost included the removal of the cameras. However, they did not state if the cameras could be re-installed once again at a later date.
While this may be beneficial to servicemen, the removal of components from the iPhone does make the warranty void. Though this does not affect us here in India in anyway, do let us know your reactions on an iPhone 4S without a camera in the comments below.
