In-application Billing Now on Android Too

The topic that was under much discussion and debate for almost a year finally saw the light of the day, yesterday. The store was opened to developer testing to have a commercial opening of the same. The concept of in-application billing isn’t new; in fact, users of Apple’s iTunes and Nokia’s Ovi Store have already been using this for a while now. Next week onwards, users of Android will also be able to avail of the service.

In-application billing or the popular coined term ‘Please insert a coin to continue’ has been one of the prime generators of revenue, as also a model that most games are based on. The games, by themselves, on these platforms may be free. But, additional content that is needed for the game will essentially require this system. Hence, developers have been very keen on emulating this model.

Android, however, plans to go very innovative with its approach to in-application billing. Big hopes have been pinned with these plans. But, the final picture is yet to be seen.
