After Acer and Asus confirmed that their tablets will be upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich, Samsung Italy has also gone ahead and confirmed the news that the Galaxy S II will get some Ice Cream Sandwich goodness.
Galaxy S II to get Android 4.0, while Optimus 2x misses out
On the other hand, there’s not really good news for LG Optimus 2x users as LG has stated via its Indian Facebook page that the Optimus 2x will not receive Android 4.0. The phone did not receive the Gingerbread update as well, so Optimus users will have to make do with Android 2.2 Froyo. Besides the S II, the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Tab 8.9, Galaxy Tab 7.7, and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus tablets will also receive the Ice Cream Sandwich update, as reported by Android OS.
This also begs the question of whether the other range of Optimus smartphones, like the Optimus 3D will receive the ICS update. Fragmentation of the Android operating system into various updates is a little unequal yet and with the rate at which these updates are coming, it’s only fair if there’s some consideration for the consumers buying them.
