HCL have made an entry into educational computing for kids by unveiling four models of HCL ME Topper and Junior Topper series. The computers are designed specifically for educational purposes, not that they won’t have games, but there’s more emphasis on the education qualities of these machines.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. George Paul, Executive Vice President, HCL Infosystems Ltd said “Technology brings new ways to aid education and with the rapidly transforming environment it is imperative that newer interactive ways through latest technology are devised to reach out to the next generation early. With computing becoming the future mode of education, we believe learning devices backed with rich education content will engage kids to develop their intelligence and thinking ability that quickens their learning curve”
Moving to the tech talk, HCL ME L1-30 and L2-36 have a 3.7 inch display screen, with piano keys, and while the L1-30 has 30 educational activities, L2-36 has 36 educational activities. The L1-30 sells for Rs. 1,090 and L2-36 is priced at Rs. 1,390. The other two computers called the HCL ME L1-88 and D1-48 are the higher end computers and both have 88 different activities for education. L1-88 has a 4.7 inch screen with a QWERTY keyboard, designed to look like a laptop it also has a memory card with games. All this for Rs. 1,590. The D1-48 has a 4.3 inch screen and a wireless keyboard with an adjustable monitor. This comes for Rs. 1,690. All the computers come with a replacement warranty.
