It's here. 11/11/11. The date that your Facebook News Feeds and Twitter timelines have made you very well aware of. For some people, it's that annoying time where they have a moment of enlightenment at 11 seconds past 11:11 am. And then they forget about it, waiting for the next fantastic 'numbers of dates' phenomenon to happen. For others, the world's just going to plain end, forget about all the evidence that substantiates the apocalypse for next year. Of course, there are those who will not allow the world to end before Sachin Tendulkar hits his 100th century. Also for a more 'romanctic' bunch of others, today is THE day to get married this year. According to the LA Times, Las Vegas, the IT place to get married in the United States is apparently clustered with more than 3,500 wedding applications. Let's not forget, the Bachchan baby might make its debut into humankind today.
What does this date mean to you?
Here is where I say technology simplifies life, if not makes it better. A group of nerds in Redwood City, California, are celebrating the binary value of this day. The next six digit date that will be in binary will be in 88 years from now, January 1st, 2100. For now, the nerds are getting together for a block party, the proceeds of which will all go to charity and is sponsored by companies like Andreeson Horowitz, Microsoft, AT&T, Firefox and others. Now, isn't a block party a lot simpler than the world ending?
