Google Mail, Drive, Spreadsheets hit by service disruption

Some users are currently unable to access Google Mail (Gmail), Google Drive, Google Documents, Google Spreadsheets and Google Presentations. Google's App Status Dashboard currently bears the orange indicator against the names of these services, indicating a service disruption.

Google has elaborated on the Apps Status Dashboard that the issue with Gmail is inconveniencing 0.07 percent of its user base and those affected are unable to access the service at the moment. As per Google's latest update on the dashboard, the service has been restored for some users. The latest update on the Status Dashboard reads: "Google Mail service has already been restored for some users, and we expect a resolution for all users in the near future. Please note this time frame is an estimate and may change."

On the issue of service disruption affecting Drive, Google elaborated, "We're investigating reports of an issue with Google Drive. We will provide more information shortly," on its Apps Status Dashboard.

Google services hit by service disruption

Considering the popularity of these services, especially ones like Gmail and Drive, it is only predictable that those affected will be highly inconvenienced. Some took to Twitter narrating their helpless at the given situation. One user with the handle @amateurdam tweeted, "I realised that Gmail was down when I hadn't had an email from LinkedIn for twenty minutes," while another tweet, from @SamJKatz read, "I imagine that this is how the end of the world begins.... #gmail down. I'm waiting for a "PEOPLE OF GOTHAM" speech any moment now..."

It isn't the first time that these popular Google services faced a service disruption. In February this year, users were unable to access Google Plus and Gmail, for a brief period.

In July last year, Gtalk suffered a disruption that affected user access worldwide. Each time users tried sending a chat across, they received a message that their chats haven't been received.

Google's Gtalk service is the most popular chat service available today, and a disruption such as this is bound to cause much inconvenience to its wide user base globally. The service can also be accessed via Gmail, one of the most popular e-mail services around today.
