Google gets groovy with its New Year's Eve doodle

With the holidays season in full swing, Google has brought out all its creative brushes to illustrate its home page with doodles. Post the Happy Holidays series of doodles celebrating Christmas, Google has put one up to celebrate New Year’s Eve.

The animated doodle features the numerals of the year, 2-0-1-3, getting groovy on the dance floor, presumably at a New Year’s party. Even as the numerals are dancing, you can see the number “4” eagerly awaiting its turn to join in the festivities. The dance floor has the Google logo floating over it, with the second O in the logo turning into a shiny, disco ball.

Ringing in the New Year

Ringing in the New Year

Google regularly has doodles to ring in the New Year, however, last year was different. With the brutal gang rape in Delhi in December, followed by the braveheart’s demise, Google skipped the celebratory doodle, opting instead for a tiny flame on a candle placed on the lower half of the page, to express its solidarity.

The New Year’s Eve doodle could be considered the final link in the Happy Holidays series of doodles by Google this year. Google kicked off the festive season with postcard-like doodles in the series that depicted Christmas scenes. The first one showed a couple of kids being pulled along on a one-horse open sleigh, the second showed a Christmas scene in a town, followed by a solitary house against the backdrop of a starry night.
