The Nintendo 3DS launched in Japan on February 26, in Europe on March 25 and in the US on March 27. With Nintendo products not being available officially here in India, it didn’t look very likely that the 3DS would make it here anytime soon, forcing those of us who were considering procuring it to look at alternate channels, even if it meant sacrificing warranty.
The 3DS is here!
That has now changed, with Game4U, the retail wing of Milestone Interactive, bringing the Nintendo 3DS to India. The console comes with a six-month distributor warranty, which while not ideal, is better than nothing. The console is of the Cosmo Black NTSC variant, which means importing games released in the US then becomes an option. Regardless, all of the 3DS’ US launch titles are also available.
This is fantastic news, sure, but the pricing brings the excitement down a notch. The 3DS itself is priced at Rs. 21,990 (which is pretty much double the price if you convert the US price of $250) and the games, available for $39.99, are priced at Rs. 2,899.
Pilotwings Resort is one of the launch titles
I realize the customs and a lot of other issues are to blame here, and that is understandable, but that price is just too high in my opinion. Regardless, it’s a good option for those who don’t want to deal with the hassle of importing, and want to feel safe for the six months that the warranty lasts for.
Now, excuse me while I weigh my options. If you're interested, you can purchase the console here.
