Foursquare for iOS update brings better Explore abilities

Foursquare for iOS has just been updated and this is one update you should check out. The next time your favorite restaurant gets too crowded, or you are out looking for places to eat after a movie, the Explore option will offer you more recommendations on a single screen. Head over to the iTunes store to grab the update for your device.

Users can now see ratings, see friends who've been there, money-saving specials and useful tips. Additionally, users can tap on a place to see even more options like directions and menu items. The Explore option has been redesigned too: it will show users top suggestions for places in the area with highlights like new spots in the neighborhood and trending places. Users can tap on the search bar up top if they're looking for something specific.

Explore your vicinity better

Explore your vicinity better

Last month Foursquare updated its Android app. The update aimed at making it easier to find the best stuff in the users' vicinity quickly. After noting that people were increasingly using the app to search for places to visit, Foursquare claimed to have built a smoother search experience. The "Explore" option was moved to the top of the home screen to allow users to find a place instantly. All users have to do is tap the search bar and input search words such as “nachos”, “Mexican”, or “margaritas” or look through categories such as coffee, food, and nightlife.

Those unsure of what they're looking for can still find Foursquare's top picks for interesting places located in the area by choosing the “Best Nearby” option. When users open the Foursquare app, they will now see a map at the top that shows friends who have checked in nearby, in addition to those present at other places of their choice. Zoom out of the map to look around to find more friends. Foursquare has also moved the "Nearby Friends" option to the top of the stream.

Another addition to the app is the "Drawer" option. It replaces the three tabs at the bottom of the user interface. Users can tap the top left corner of the screen and view their profiles, lists and settings.

Foursquare also recently started letting users share information with friends who do not have the app installed on their phones.
