Flickr update may be unveiled at May 20 event

Yahoo! has a press event scheduled to take place on May 20 in New York. Now a source familiar with the matter has revealed that the company's CEO Marissa Mayer will unveil updates to photo-sharing site Flickr at the event. Bloomberg reports that Yahoo! even sent out media invites to the briefing yesterday. That said, Anne Espiritu, a spokeswoman for the company, refused to divulge more details on the May 20 event.

Flickr last updated its iOS application in March this year. The update allowed Flickr iOS users to add a hashtag in their photo's title or description. Users can now see all the photos with that hashtag just by taiping on it. The updated app is compatible with the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. To be able to use the app, users will require devices running iOS 4.3 or later. This app is optimised for iPhone 5.

Update coming?

Yahoo! has been in the news over the past couple of days for another reason too. Talks are on over a possible deal between Yahoo! and Tumblr, and these don't seem to be dying down anytime soon.

AllThingsD reported that sources familiar with the happenings told them that the Yahoo! board is likely to decide if it should approve a $1.1 billion all-cash offer for Tumblr when they meet Sunday night.

If you're still clueless about what's brewing between Yahoo! and Tumblr, let us remind you that Yahoo! may be looking at making a strategic alliance and investment in blogging service Tumblr. Yahoo! has gone even as far as saying that it may buy Tumblr.
