Facebook is Most Visited Website of the Year

One would think that Google would be the world’s most popular website, being the mother of all search engines and all; but no. Experian Hitwise has been up to a little research, and has analyzed the top 1000 search terms for 2010. According to their figures, Facebook has topped the charts this year for being the most visited website, leaving a trail of social networking dust and Google in second place. The tables have figuratively been turned, as Google was in number one position last year and Facebook in second. Among the top 50 terms, Facebook accounted for 3.48 percent of all searches in the US. This indicates a 207 percent increase when compared to last year.

Number one

Apart from being the most visited website of 2010, Facebook also bagged first and second position for the top search terms, these being ‘Facebook’ and ‘Facebook Login’. Last year, they only held first position for the term ‘Facebook’, with Myspace and Craigslist coming in at second and third respectively.

Facebook is rapidly becoming a multi-faceted monster, making dozens of changes to make their presence felt more and more and it obviously seems to be working, as they’re definitely moving up in the ranks. And Facebook’s win this year also means a big loss for Google, as the latter seems to be losing ground over the former.
