Help Facebook and win big

In a blog post, Facebook software engineer Tim Stanke said “We're starting the Hacker Cup to bring engineers from around the world together to compete in a multi-round programming competition. Contestants will have to successfully solve algorithmic-based problem statements to advance and are ranked by accuracy and speed." Stanke also stated hacking was a central part of Facebook's culture and that they were always hacking away to find a better way for doing things.

For those interested, the contest will be held in three rounds - two of which will be online. The Top three thousand hackers from Online Round 1 will go to Online Round 2. The top twenty-five who succeed will move on to the final round, which will be held on the Facebook campus on the 11th of March, 2011. Facebook will pay for their travel and accommodation.

The winner will take home a cool $5000, while the first and second runner up win $2000 and $1000 respectively. The other contestants who place fourth to twenty fifth win $100.
