Facebook declutters your news feed; adds Interest Lists

It is easy to lose one's way in the social networking garble; and even easier to do so, if you have an unorganized News Feed on Facebook. Starting today, Facebook users will be able to sort their lists, as per their "Interests", in such a way that all that is relevant to them, has their undivided attention will feature on their News Feed. In many ways, then, their News Feed will resemble their personalized newspaper, with feeds relating only to their Interests. According to an official blog post by Eric Faller, software engineer, users can about creating Interest Lists featuring their general interests, which may range from anything, like fashion, music or something more specific, like their favourite football team, or their most followed news beat. What would follow then would be a news feed, containing selective headlines and posts, updates from the user's chosen Interest field. This doesn't stop here, since Facebook Interest Lists would also allow you to add your friends to your Interest Lists, too.

Facebook, further adds that, "In the coming weeks, you'll see the Add Interests link in your left-hand bookmarks. When you do, you can subscribe to lists on almost any topic. For example:


  • If you love football, subscribe to the NFL Teams interest list for a gridiron-focused feed. No need to check on each team in the NFL, your favorite athletes’ profiles, and ESPN.
  • If you’re into politics, subscribe to the 2012 US Presidential Candidates interest list to see updates from all the campaigns, or get posts from major newsoutlets like CNN, Fox, MSNBC, and the Wall Street Journal."
