We mentioned how digital had gone mainstream in our Trends for 2011 feature. Everything in the entertainment genre – from music, video to gaming has been heavily dependent upon the digital type of consumption, as opposed to the more traditional physical media. As reported by Gizmodo, digital music sales have now trumped the sales of physical music. According to a report by Nielsen and Billboard, the percentage of sales is 50.3 percent to digital out of the complete sales of music.
When was the last time you bought one of those?
On a comparative basis, physical music sales is on a downfall decreasing at a rate of 5 percent in 2011, whilst digital media is escalating at a steady rate of 8.4 percent.
