Dell seems to be focusing more on the education sector as it has announced its new range of Latitude and Chromebook notebooks targeted at schools and colleges. The refreshed line includes new 2-in-1 and standard notebooks under the Latitude series as well as Chromebook.
The Dell Latitude 11 Convertible and Chromebook 11 Convertible are the latest and one of the first 2-in-1 notebooks offered by the company (it just launched the XPS 13 2-in-1). Featuring a reversible screen that can flip over both the laptops can be used in tablet mode. It is said to be suitable for kids as it comes with toughened, scratch-resistant glass and the Latitude offers support for a stylus as well.
Other features include a front-facing camera for Skype calls and video recording with 7th-gen Intel Kaby Lake Celeron or Pentium processors on the Latitude while the Chromebook still get the 6th-gen Skylake Intel Celeron CPUs.
The Latitude 11 and Chromebook 11 along with the Latitude 13 and Chromebook 13 sport a traditional laptop design with a 180-degree hinge on the display allowing the keyboard and screen to be laid flat. Just like the convertibles, there is option for the latest Celeron and Pentium processors. While the Chromebook 13 goes up to Kaby Lake Intel Core i3, the Latitude 13 can be configured with an Intel Core i5 processor.
All the models include MIL-STD-810g military standard for design, which covers environmental pressures like temperature, shock, humidity and water exposure. They also feature sealed keyboards and trackpads which are spill proof.
Dell claims an all-day battery life low-resolution 1,366x768 pixel displays. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI and USB.
As for the pricing, the 11-inch convertible laptops are priced at $579 (Rs 39,400 approx.) for the Windows model and $349 (Rs 24,800 approx.) for the Chrome OS version. For the standard versions the pricing includes $349 (Rs 24,800 approx.) for Latitude 11, $219 (Rs 15,000 approx.) for the Chromebook 11, $519 (Rs 35,300 approx.) for the Latitude 13 and $299 (Rs 21,000 approx.) for the Chromebook 13.
