Conficker worm to bring down the Internet?

The Conficker worm has all the potential to bring down the internet, according to Black Hawk Down writer Mark Bowden. As reported by Tech Eye, at present, more than 12 million computers have fallen prey to the Conficker worm, already.

My name's Worm. Conflicker Worm.

The name's Worm. Conficker Worm.

According to Bowden, the Conficker controllers can use all the infected computers and interconnect them to create the largest, most powerful computer in the world. The Conficker is a self-updating worm that gets into the core of the computer from where it starts its damage. This is not restricted to home PCs as the worm can control banking, telephones, security systems, air traffic control and even the Internet. Earlier, few people in Ukraine used the Conficker worm to steal passwords and drain out US bank accounts.

According to the writer, the Conficker worm is a potential weapon of mass destruction. As a personal opinion, if the Conficker worm does indeed have the potential to attack and demolish something as powerful as the Internet, why hasn’t it done that already? Do you think Bowden’s claims of a single worm being so powerful that it can rupture the Internet are true? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
