Huawei has never been a big smartphone player in India, but the company could just win a few fans with its latest phablet. The Chinese company announced the Ascend Mate 2 4G at CES and it's a phablet in the vein of its predecessor, by which we mean it's quite huge.
Not much has changed in the design department, with the same glossy white finish adorning the removable back cover. On the software side, there's Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, though you'd be hardpressed to tell that with Huawei's Emotion UI 2.0 running on top. There's no word on pricing and availability at the moment.

The 4G in the name is for the LTE Category 4 support, but the thing you will notice first is the massive 6.1-inch 720p IPS panel. In an age where smartphones with 2K displays are coming to market, the 720p display might seem anachronistic, but we hope that means it also has a suitably low price tag.
What the 'lower' resolution will help with most is battery life and Huawei has already ensured more than daylong battery life with a 4050mAh battery pack. The Mate 2 can also be used as a powerbank to charge up a secondary phone or to give your tablet just enough juice for you to finish watching one more cay video on YouTube. Huawei says the battery is good for 60 hours of normal use and 12 hours of web surfing.
In terms of processing power, buyers of the Mate 2 can pick one of two quad-core 1.6GHz SoCs: one is Qualcomm's MSM8928 or Snapdragon 400 , and the other is Huawei's own HiSilicon Cortex-A9 chip. The latter version will be sold only in China. The Mate 2 features 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage with the ability to expand further up to 32GB. Rounding out a robust spec list is the 5 megapixel (f/2.4) front camera and the primary 13-megapixel (f/2.0) shooter on the back.
The specs sheet suggests that the Mate 2 will slot into the mid-range segment and if Huawei is clever about the pricing and the launch in India, it could have a winner in the phablet-crazy market.
