CES 2011: LG Brings Wi-Fi Direct to its Mobile Phones

A while back, I did a story on how LG’s BD690 was the first Blu-ray player to be certified, and now they’ve done it again. Sources say that this time, it’s with a mobile phone, the LG Optimus Black. Now you will be able to send media to your friends, a PC or printer even when there’s no Wi-Fi hotspot around. And it gets even better, you will be able to connect to any DLNA enabled TVs and projectors from your phone. The Optimus Black will be one of the first smart phones to incorporate this technology, and it plans to come to us somewhere in the first half of 2011.

LG's new Optimus Black with Wi-Fi Direct

It seems like Bluetooth is going to have a lot of competition once Wi-Fi direct starts kicking in. And this is just the start. Imagine what’s going to happen once more companies start using this technology! I’m pretty sure that Wi-Fi Direct will reign supreme once that happens.
