In an order addressed to telecom operators, Vodafone in this case, the Mumbai Police have banned bulk SMS’, especially of the promotional kind, from the period starting March 31 to April 2. The order reads, “… there is a likelihood of creation of discontent in the minds of the general public prior to the final match and after the final match is over, which may create a law and order problem”. Bulk SMS have been identified as one of the possible creators, and hence been banned.
