Bing social sidebar now allows users to comment and like Facebook posts

Microsoft has yet again announced deeper Facebook integration with its Bing search engine. You can now use Bing to not just see relevant posts by your Facebook friends, but you can also like and comment on them.

Now if you have Facebook connected with your Bing accounts, you will be able to view these comments and posts in the sidebar on the right and post interactions, all without having to leave Bing. Microsoft believes that this will make social search on Bing a lot more engaging than before.

“By bringing together Bing and Facebook, you have an easy way to complement your search with helpful, interesting or insightful content your friends have shared,” wrote Nektarios Ioannides, Program Manager, Bing. “Let’s say I’m searching for Beyoncé tickets because I know she is coming to town soon. I can see that my friend has recently posted that she has an extra ticket to the show. Now without leaving the Bing results page, I comment directly to her post letting her know that I’d love to join her for the concert. I’ve gone from simply browsing to attending a concert in just a few easy steps – all thanks to Bing.”

Microsoft had added the ability to add status updates, shared links and comments to the Bing social sidebar at the beginning of the year. Back in March, Microsoft also revamped Bing Desktop to allow users to check their news feed, photos, messages, friend requests and notifications all without having to open their browsers.

Besides Facebook, the social sidebar includes query-related posts from Twitter, Foursquare and Klout. The social sidebar has been getting regular refreshes, which make it more and more relevant to the user by putting together social data with search results. Too bad Bing hasn’t announced how many people use the social sidebar yet so that we know how much the adoption has gone up since this feature was released last year.
