Amazon's India marketplace is now live

Amazon’s India marketplace business has now gone live. Currently selling books, movies and TV shows, the store is set to expand by adding mobiles, cameras and more to the website.

Live now on, the website is Amazon’s tenth marketplace and aims to provide Indian customers with a shopping destination to purchase products from third-party sellers. The marketplace will enable these sellers to list their products for customers locally and globally. They will also have access to a suite of services, including Selling on Amazon and Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA).

Through FOA, sellers will be able to send their products to an Amazon fulfillment centre. When a customer orders from the catalogue on the Amazon site, the company will ship the products from the fulfillment centre to them.

Currently, Amazon’s Indian marketplace is providing free home delivery for a limited time period. Going further, the website will charge Rs. 49 per package for delivery and goods worth Rs. 499 and up will be delivered for free. Cash on delivery facilities are available with the website. If you have an existing account, you can use the same credentials to log-in to the Indian marketplace too.

Amazon had also launched, an aggregator site that listed deals from online retailers in the country. Considering how India does not allow for Foreign Direct Investments (FDI), hosting an online marketplace seems like the easiest option for companies like Amazon. is still online and in beta and Amazon looks keen on maintaining both the websites in the country.
