While many Android fans await the launch of the Google Home speaker in India, the company that kickstarted the smart speaker revolution, is reportedly bringing its smart speakers along with its voice service to India, reports The Economic Times.
According to two individuals aware of Amazon's launch plans, the e-commerce giant has plans to get its savvy voice-assistant called Alexa online for its customers in India. With Amazon gearing up to introduce Alexa Voice Service (AVS) here, launching its smart home speakers like its tiny Echo Dot and more powerful Echo are a given.
The sources pointed out that the speakers would be launched with an English interface initially and would later receive updates to understand and respond to regional languages in the future. The language list would include Marathi, Tamil and Hindi.
The language support and software is currently under development at Amazon's Chennai facility.
With an AVS-enabled Echo speaker at home, customers will be able to order items from the Amazon store online and even call for a cab.
Amazon is also said to work with authentication, allowing more family members to use one speaker.
Pricing is also said to be competitive, although at the moment, the first smart speaker has yet to make its ways into Indian homes. As always, the Echo speakers will promote and be linked to Amazon's long list of services.
