The voracious reader in you can rejoice as Amazon Kindle is now available for BlackBerry 10, the Canada-based company has announced on its blog. Listing the features that Kindle brings to the table, the post adds that with the Kindle, users can adjust the size of the text, adjust the screen's brightness, pick any background colour and sit back and read in either the landscape or the portrait mode. If you come across a word that gets you scratching your head in confusion, all you have to do is tap and hold it to view its definition, courtesy the in-built dictionary. For more information on that word, users can click on the Google or Wikipedia links.
With Kindle on BlackBerry 10, avid readers can not only shop for ebooks, but also read the first chapter for free before making the purchase decision. Users can take their pick from thousands of free ebooks on the store, like Pride & Prejudice or The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Kindle on the platform is available in English and French languages.

BlackBerry Z10 users can carry their favourite titles with them. They can use Whispersync to sync their bookmarks, notes and highlights between Android, PC, Mac, iPad, iPhone, iPod touch, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7/8, Kindle Cloud Reader, and any of the Kindle devices across their account.
The app also supports newspapers and magazines. The Amazon Kindle app for BlackBerry 10 is up for grabs in the BlackBerry World storefront for free download.
Earlier this month, BlackBerry released the first update for its latest BlackBerry 10 OS, bringing in a slew of improvements. The update is available for all BlackBerry Z10 users and the device can get the update over-the-air.
The update brings the software version up to 10.0.10.85 and is only a 150MB download. Reportedly, the update boosts the smartphone performance, battery life, low-light camera capabilities etc. The company said the update was being rolled out in phases.
One major improvement through the update is the performance of third-party apps. This will help developers build apps that run fast and smooth on the Z10. The BlackBerry official changelog says, “With this update, you might want to keep an eye out for some fresh new app launches in March, like WhatsApp.”
Among the top improvements and features are fixes for Gmail calendars on BlackBerry 10. Users will also “find improvements in the BlackBerry Hub for logging calls log and how conversations are handled.” The update also brings general improvement when users import contacts from online sources
The camera app has been optimised to take better photos in low-light situations. Confusingly, the changelog says, “You’ll love the difference this makes for photos where you don’t use a flash.” We take this to believe the firmware has been updated and the image processor now absorbs a great deal more light by itself.
