Amazon.com is currently in talks with the likes of Flipkart.com, LetsBuy.com and Exclusively.in, and it has been confirmed that by the start of next year, Amazon will have launched in India. The popular, and subsequently the leading worldwide online retail brand is keen on making its presence felt in the online retail space in the country, which at present is soaring.
According to a report in The Times of India, the brand is planning a decent sized setup in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Chennai. Amazon.com has already begun with the hiring process for a team of 200 or so employees. Amongst its first plans for setting up base here in India, is a warehouse in Mumbai. The company has also purchased 80,000 sq. ft of property at SP Infocity by Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Ltd, in Perungudi, Chennai.
Amazon's India plans are being revealed at a time when several other key players in the foreign market are jostling for attention in the Indian market. Brands like eBay, Groupon, among others have made their way in by acquiring Baazee.com and SoSasta.com, respectively. However, Amazon hasn't found any luck yet with the Indian players. Now, it's just the wait and watch game as usual..
