Facebook India's done something no other big branch of Facebook in the world has done yet. Aircel users can now 'call in' their Facebook statuses. Aircel users need to dial 51555 and put in their basic info, and then update to their wall, or even their friends' wall. This feature uses voice recognition technology to work. Aircel says that if you use this technology on your friend's wall, they will get an SMS alerting them and they can reply via dialing in as well (if they are Aircel subscribers). The company hasn't mentioned how much this feature will cost though.
Aircel has always been big on promoting social networking and mobile applications. Although this feature isn't too terribly popular right now (because the number of Aircel users is relatively low), it seems like it should be the way forward in social networking. Seeing the evolution trend with Reliance offering SMS Tweets, this feature may not catch on if the major networks don't offer it, even though an average social networker like yours truly would quite enjoy it. Think about it, this service isn't even available in the States yet, wouldn't you want to be part of the exclusivity Mr. Vodafone?
