Samsung has finally launched the Galaxy Grand 2 in India at an event in Mumbai. The Grand 2 will be available in stores from January onwards, but surprisingly we haven't got an official price for the phone. Samsung says it will be available between Rs 22,990 and Rs 24,990 in the market. This is a very odd way of launching a phone as the only thing that remained a mystery after last month's unveiling was the price and we still don't know what it will be.
The Grand 2 has a tough task ahead of it. It will have to follow the success of the Galaxy Grand, one of the bestselling smartphones this year. To do so, Samsung has made some significant improvements in the specs. In terms of design, the Grand takes off from the recently launched Note 3, which had a faux leather back. This makes an appearance on the Grand 2 and lends it a better look than any plain glossy piece of plastic could.
Grand 2 is on its way
The Galaxy Grand 2 features a 16:9 720p display with a resolution of 1280x720 pixels. It comes with support for Samsung's Multi Window feature that allows multitasking on the device’s large screen. The internals have also been beefed up as the Galaxy Grand 2 is powered by a Qualcomm chipset (most likely the Snapdragon 400) with a quad-core processor clocked at 1.2GHz and there's a healthy 1.5GB of RAM on board, that should ideally deliver a smooth and lagfree experience. It runs on Android 4.3, and there is no word on whether it will get Android KitKat.
Here’s a quick look at its key specifications:
- 5.25-inch HD display with 1280x720 pixel of resolution
- 3G, Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth, GPS with GLONASS
- 8 megapixel rear camera with auto-focus and LED flash, 1.9 megapixel front-facing camera
- 8GB onboard storage, expandable upto 64GB via microSd card slot
It measures 146.8 x 75.3 x 8.9 mm, and tips the scale at 163 grams. All of this is fuelled by a 2,600mAh battery that Samsung says is good enough for up to 10 hours of playback and 17 hours of talk time.
Continuing the Galaxy legacy, the Grand 2 comes with some smart features that continue such as the Story Album to organize pictures, an S Translator app, a Samsung Hub, S Travel, Samsung Link and more. Samsung has announced a new collective hub for all multimedia and entertainment content called Club Samsung. This will be a unified store for buying movies, music, concert videos and live TV shows. Club Samsung is free for buyers of the Grand 2 for the first 3 months.
