Android is gaining dominance each day. Currently 75 percent of the world’s smartphones are running Google’s popular mobile OS and this number isn’t going to get any smaller if this report by KPCB partner Mary Meeker is to be believed. You can view a quick slideshow of her report here.
According to TechCrunch’s Josh Constine, who attended a mid-year update in San Fransisco last night, Android is growing at six times the rate that iPhone is.
Other key highlights from the report are:
• 1 billion smartphone users but 5 billion mobile phone users by the end of 2012.
• In Q1 2012 the amount of Internet-enabled Android devices shipped surpassed the number of Windows Internet-enabled devices shipped.
Android is winning.
• By the end of 2013, the report states that 160 million Android devices, 100 million Windows devices, and 80 million iOS devices will be shipped per quarter.
• iPad adoption is increasing five times faster than iPhone adoption.
