by Jul 11, 2012

So the rumors seem to be true. After much speculation, reports and a cold yet familiar silence from Apple, Tech site gottabemobile.com has released what it claims are pictures of the smaller iPad.

The report says, “Photos of the iPad Mini engineering sample come from a trusted source inside the Apple supply chain, who also provided exclusive iPhone 5 engineering sample photos, which are more detailed.

The early design sample in the below photos is a plastic mold that may be used to hone the production process and test accessories. This would be the first significant update to the iPad design since Apple introduced it in 2010.”

Rumours of an iPad mini have abounded, especially after Google launched the 7-inch Nexus 7 which a Quad processor to compete with Amazon’s amazingly successful Kindle Fire.

The rumours were further fueled by Bloomberg’s latest report which said,  The new model will have a screen that’s 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally, less than the current 9.7-inch version, said the people, who asked not to be identified because Apple hasn’t made its plans public. Its unlikely that the iPad mini will have Retina Display like the new iPad.

The report added that Apple would kill the $399 iPad 2, and could introduce a 16GB iPad mini for a similar price.
