Intel launches 4th generation Haswell processors in India

With high hopes that its new processor would serve as a foundation for the thrust of two in one computing, Intel today launched its 4th generation Intel Core processor in India. Promising that the new processor will deliver upto a 50 percent increase in battery life, Leighton Phillips, product management and pricing director, Intel (Asia Pacific) said, “Today’s announcement accelerates a new category of 2-in-1 computing devices delivering the best of a notebook and a tablet in amazing new form factors.” [caption id=“attachment_906979” align=“alignleft” width=“380”]  Representational Image. Reuters[/caption] The company claims that the battery life gain with the 4th generation processor offers thwarted most significant gain in battery life ever achieved -upto double the graphics and significant CPU performance - and has equated it to nine hours of battery life for active workloads for some ultrabooks. “Improvements have been made keeping in mind the user’s needs and requirements of a power efficient, high performance device,” said Debjani Ghosh, managing director sales and marketing group, Intel South Asia. Ghosh said she was most excited about what the processor could do for the Indian markets. “I think perceptual computing is what will drive technology in India and our processor enables that, making computing more intuitive. This is very important in a market like India, where there is a lack of literacy - a major barrier to the effective use of technology,” she said. The company is optimistic that the 4th Gen processor will usher in a new wave of ultrabooks and 2-in-1 devices which will give the user the power to use it as both, a tablet and a PC. Some of the capabilities that ultrabooks and devices embedded with 4th generation processors will be enabled with are the ability to manufacture more sleek designs, with increased responsiveness, more interactivity, improved voice command control, faster transfer capabilities and most of all extended battery life. Ultrabooks and devices built with these new processors will begin selling in India as early as the first week of July, with some of the partner companies being Acer, Dell, HP and Lenovo. Acer’s Aspire 572, with the new processsor which will be available in retail store by mid-July, will sell at around Rs 37, 000 onwards. The pricing for products of other partners are not available at this time.
