Instagram snubs BlackBerry 10, will not develop native app: Report

BlackBerry 10, the new platform for BlackBerry is unlikely to get a native Instagram app, reports  AllThingsD The report states that, Sources close to Instagram tell AllThingsD that a native version of the photo-sharing application is not headed to BlackBerry 10 — not anytime soon, at least. “There will be no [native] Instagram for BB10 for now,” said one. “Frankly, I’m not sure there will ever be.” [caption id=“attachment_638334” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![Instagram will port the Android app for Instagram to BlackBerry 10](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Instagram_Android_Screengrab.jpg) Instagram will port the Android app for Instagram to BlackBerry 10[/caption] A native app means an app that is created using the Software Developer Kit provided by BlackBerry or Android. The report hints that the company is likely to port an Android version of the app for BlackBerry 10. Gizbot added that “unfortunately, Instagram is not the only app that is seen to be porting its android app to BlackBerry 10, and there are a number of app developers who are porting their android apps to Blackberry 10. The reason behind apps porting their android apps is that development of a native app is time consuming to a larger extent and also the huge investment requirement. This does not happen while porting an android app and developers can save both time and money.” Although BlackBerry’s biggest direct competitor (in terms of market share) Windows Phone also launched without an Instagram app, it is widely expected that Nokia’s Lumia handsets will be getting a custom-made app which will help it stand out from other Windows Phone manufacturers, said a report in AFP. In contrasts, the AllThingsD report said that there would be no Instagram app for BlackBerry “any time soon”.
