HTC to launch ‘top secret’ Siri-rival? Not really

by Jun 25, 2012

HTC’s latest joke has caused an Internet frenzy with rumour mills going overboard. This happened when HTC’s Twitter account tweeted the picture below with the following tweet:

Ruff-Ruff-Bark-Woof-Ruff. Use this feature to translate that to English. http://twitpic.com/9z9lmc #fridayfun

The image of an HTC One X featuring a voice recognition software, much like Apple’s Siri or Samsung’s S-Voice sparked off rumours that HTC was going to launch its own version of Siri or S-Voice.  Never mind that it said, “Top Secret” on top or “Sorry dog fans, this is not real” at the bottom.

HTC's Siri Rival.

Or the fact that HTC tweeted out #fridayfun along with the pic. So what if the picture showed a conversation between a dog and a handset, the rumours were already flying. It seems it was a photo designed for HTC’s PetWeek.

According to Android Community, HTC was just teasing as there’s no doubt that a Siri-like feature will soon be out. The report says,

HTC’s “Top Secret” new voice assistant was looking very similar to Siri and featuring options like being able to take appointments, share weather alerts and all that jazz; but we have a feeling they’ll just wait for Google’s Assistant to arrive with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The report also mentions that Google is preparing their own codenamed Project Majel that will be shown off at Google’s app developer conference this week as Google Assistant.
