For the first time ever, Galaxy S III outsells iPhone 4S in US

The iPhone 5 might be coming out on 12 September, but the Galaxy S III is ruling the US market for now. According to Canaccord Genuity’s Michael Walkley, the S III outsold the iPhone 4 for the month of August in the US. The iPhone 4S had been at the top spot of the US smartphone market since its launch in October last year.

However Samsung’s moment on top is likely to be short-lived according to Walkley. According to CNet , Walkley said in a note to investors on Tuesday that his checks with US carriers found that iPhone sales have been soft ahead of the launch of Apple’s next iPhone, allowing Samsung’s Galaxy S III to take the top spot.

So while Samsung can celebrate for now, the iPhone 5 is expected to kill off competition. Plus Apple also wants the S III banned in a new and amended complaint that was filed in court on 31 August. For more on why Apple wants the S III banned click here.

Last quarter Apple had said that anticipation for the iPhone 5 for poor revenue results . Apple did post a 23 percent jump in revenue from the same quarter the previous year to $35 billion, but that was about $2 billion below Wall Street’s average forecast.
