When we conceptualised Firstpost, it was very much about building a platform of views, or posts if you will, on all the issues that were of interest to a growing digital and social audience.
Over close to two years now, we've fulfilled this promise through text, images, and as much interaction as a digital newsroom could put out for you. In the course of this time, your participation, as we've said many times before, has overwhelmed us. You have clearly outwritten us hollow. Today 75% of Firstpost content is written by you, the reader.
And then there is video. We've always felt that video must be as important a pillar of Firstpost as text is. However, we've taken our time to navigate the best way of bringing the digital editorial to you, through video.
From this thinking emerges: YouSpeak - a multimedia platform of views.
This experience consists of three parts:
1) Our voices, speaking to you. Where they will spend a minute or two explaining their stance on a topic
2) You can Reply to every one of these voices by simply hitting the reply button below the video. We detect if you have a webcam and record your 30 sec view, allow you to preview and re-record as many times as you want to. You then submit it and we review and publish it.
3) You can also start any discussion that you wish. By again turning on the recorder and simply hitting record.
4) We are asking for your Twitter or Facebook credentials because this experience unlike our text commenting, cannot be anonymous.
We've tried to make this as simple and as democratic as possible - both of which are key values of the Firstpost experience.
You can navigate to it either from our global navigation on top, that will indicate the text and video experiences to you, as well as through our homepage and through story pages, when there is an appropriate view to reference to.
So speak away - and tell us what you think - now on VIDEO!
PS: We will launch an android app soon, that will enable you to SPEAK to us through mobile as well.
