The worst thing about accessing Facebook on iOS devices via the app has been the speed, or sad lack thereof. But with the latest update aka version 5 of the Facebook app, users are finally given a faster Facebook experience on their iOS touch-screen devices.
The new app looks exactly like the old but there are subtle changes.
These are some of the key changes:
• Faster Newsfeed: The difference is very discernible, especially if you compare the Android app to the new iOS app. The Newsfeed simply loads much faster. The app also changes the way users access other Left hand side tabs, which incorporate your Timeline, Messages etc. Now you simply swipe the Newsfeed to your right if you want to go to another tab. And you can swipe it right back if you want to switch to the Newsfeed. This is very cool feature and its been nicely executed by Facebook.
The Newsfeed also has a new feature which you can pull right on top to see extra stories. So every time your feed is updated you don't have to keep re-loading and Facebook will show you a message stating how many news stories are now there on your feed. Simply tap and those new stories will reflect.
• Photos: Photos have undergone a fairly drastic change. If you click on picture, it opens much faster. You can then simply swipe it downwards to go back to your newsfeed or timeline. You can also swipe left and right to see how many pictures there are in a album. This second key feature is a big plus for the app.
Posting photos directly from the app is also much faster. You also have the option of retaking a picture in case you don't like what you've clicked.
• Likes: If you like or comment on a post via the app, it appears instantly unlike in the old app, where the likes didn't show then. Also the Like pops and is much more interactive. Subtle, but once again, cool.
