BlackBerry 10 to come with Siri-like voice command?

by Jul 24, 2012

BlackBerry might not no longer be the device in demand like in it used to be in the pre-iPhone/Android era but its makers Research in Motion (RIM) are trying hard to bring the device update.

So what’s the latest update that BlackBerry 10 developers device has got? A Siri-like Voice assistant.

According to this video put up by CrackBerry, the functionality is still very basic and under development and not exactly a competitor to Apple’s Siri.

Research in Motion Chief Executive Officer Thorsten Heins speaks at the BlackBerry World event in Orlando. Reuters

The video shows that the update lets access the assistant by pressing down on Alpha handset’s Play / Pause button. This gives access to the a universal search funtion, users can also get driving directions via Bing Maps, check the weather etc.

RIM, which had announced its next-generation BlackBerry 10 devices in May, was forced to delay the launch of the devices, a move that has not gone down well with investors. The smartphone maker said that the delay was because the integration of features and a huge volume of code into the platform had “proven to be more time consuming than anticipated.”
