Bad news for iO6 users: Google not planning a maps app

It looks like iO6 users are going to be stuck with the cartographical nightmare that is Apple maps for a while yet, since Google maps has not offered a maps application for it as yet. Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt told a small group of reporters during a visit to Tokyo that the company had not submitted a new Google Maps application to Apple Inc after the iPhone maker dropped the use of it in launching its newest device. We talk to them every day,” he said. Apple is being panned for its map application that debuted with iO6 instead of Google Maps, as it gives terribly vague directions, insists that a lot of places simply do not exist, and in some cases are just plain wrong. It’s even worse if you live outside the US, and in India, its awfulness has to be seen to be believed. However Apple is pursuing a strategy of luring away Google Maps employees who helped develop the search giant’s product on contract, and according to TechCrunch, many of those individuals seem eager to accept due in part to the opportunity Apple represents to build new product, instead of just doing “tedious updates” on a largely complete platform.
