Apple’s statement: Samsung’s copying went far deeper than we knew

by Aug 25, 2012

Apple have won their landmark patent trial against Samsung in the San Jose, California. The jury went in Apple’s favour and ruled that Samsung was guilty of patent infringement and fined the South-Korean firm apporximately $1.049 bn for ripping off Apple’s products. The list of Samsung devices that got will get affected is quite long and you can view it here.

Apple is clearly in a mood to rub it in. After the victory, their press statement was all about how they were right and Samsung were wrong.

AllThingsDhas put out Apple’s complete press statement after the trial. It reads:

We are the champions: Apple. Reuters

“We are grateful to the jury for their service and for investing the time to listen to our story and we were thrilled to be able to finally tell it. The mountain of evidence presented during the trial showed that Samsung’s copying went far deeper than even we knew. The lawsuits between Apple and Samsung were about much more than patents or money. They were about values. At Apple, we value originality and innovation and pour our lives into making the best products on earth. We make these products to delight our customers, not for our competitors to flagrantly copy. We applaud the court for finding Samsung’s behavior willful and for sending a loud and clear message that stealing isn’t right.”

Apple is now extolling the virtues of their values and how they make the best products in the world. There’s no denying that the iPhone did change smartphones and their usage drastically, but after this trial consumers in America can kiss goodbye to choice for a lot of Samsung products are likely to get banned.

The American patent system and Apple are the winners in this case.
