All you need to know about the HTC 8X and 8S Windows phones

by Sep 20, 2012

HTC just launched two new Windows 8-based smartphones, the Windows Phone 8X and 8S. This is a look at the tech specifications of the two smartphones. But before we start getting technical, we have to comment at this point, that both smartphones which are available in a number of colours, look really really cute.

HTC Windows Phone 8X

Processor: This smartphone has a Qualcomm S4 dual-core processor, clocked at a speed of 1.5 Ghz. This is the same processor as the Lumia 920. The smartphone also has 1 GB RAM, but comes with only 16 GB of space. According to HTC the capacity will vary with each phone. Interestingly on the HTC site, there’s a footnote that says, Available storage is less due to phone software.

Will this prove to be a deal-breaker with users who want more space on their smartphones? Possibly.

Screen Resolution: This smartphone has 4.3 inch super LCD 2 Touchscreen with 720p HD resolution. The smartphone uses a Gorilla Glass 2 screen.

Camera: This one comes with an 8 megapixel rear camera with auto focus and LED flash. It has F2.0 aperture and 28mm lens. HD video recording is at 1080p.

The front camera is an impressive 2.1 megapixels, and also supports 1080p camera recording. HTC also promises an ultra-wide-angle on the front camera for bigger pictures.

This smartphone is NFC enabled. (NFC allows martphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimetres. Read more here.)

Windows Phone 8S

Processor: This smartphone comes with a Qualcomm S4 1 dual-core processor clocked at 1Ghz. The Lumia 820 is clocked at 1.5 Ghz. It has a total storage space of 16 GB, and has spaced for a Micro SD card slot to increase space. The RAM is less though, only 512 MB.

Screen: This is a smaller phone with a 4 inch Touchscreen with super LCD and WVGA resolution. Again it uses a Gorilla Glass screen.

Camera The camera is a 5 megapixel camera with auto focus and LED flash. The video camera allows video recording at 720p. There is no front camera which is really strange.

HTC also promises that both smartphones have an exclusive built in amplifier for Beats Audio, which will let users enjoy quality music.
