After Facebook, Google Plus is the biggest social network: report

by Jan 30, 2013

Think Google Plus is a failure? Well, think again. It’s bigger than Twitter if you go by the data put out by Global Web Index.

According to the report in terms of Active Usage, which the company defined as Used or contributed to in the past month, 25 percent of the world’s global Internet population users Google + actively. Of course this is nothing compare to Facebook which has a staggering 51 percent of the world’s active Internet users on a monthly basis.

The report also adds that Twitter was the fastest growing network for Q4 of 2012 as it grew nearly 40 percent to 288 million users.

As far as Google+ is concerned the report states, despite being branded a failure or ghost town by large portions of the media, grew in terms of active usage by 27 percent to 343 million users to become the second biggest social platform. Google+ is integrated with Google search as well and according to the report this is so key to the future of search and the Internet.

At number 3 in the social media platforms is YouTube (which the company did not previously track as a social platform). While Facebook has a very huge advantage, Google is not far behind if one were to look at the fact that two of its services are at number two and three respectively.
