Adblock Plus app now also available for Android devices

by Nov 28, 2012

For Android users who’ve hated all those ads that keep popping up every time you’re playing a game or reading news on an app, there’s good news. Adblock Plus app is now available for Android users 2.1 and above.

The app, which is part of an open source project will run in the background and filter ads, pretty much the same way that the Adblock Plus browser extension does.

So how will it work?

• If the device is rooted, Adblock Plus will filter all web traffic out of the box. A Rooted device means all user-installed applications to have access to privileged commands that are typically unavailable to the device when it is sold by the manufacturer. ( To know more about rooting click here.

• On non-rooted devices running Android 3.1 and higher, Adblock Plus will filter all WiFi traffic out of the box.

• On non-rooted devices running Android 3.0 and older, Adblock Plus needs to be configured as a proxy server manually. Some devices do not support proxy configuration, and Adblock Plus does not work on those.

You can download the app from here.  Watch video of the app here.
