French forces detain suspects in Mali U.N. attack

DAKAR (Reuters) - French forces have detained three men and seized a large cache of arms which they believe were linked to a recent rocket attack on a U.N. base in northern Mali in which a Senegalese peacekeeper was killed, the French military said on Sunday. TOKYO (Reuters) - In a blow to Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Japanese trade and industry minister Yuko Obuchi plans to resign following reports that political groups supporting her misused political funds, Japanese media reported on Friday. At least 27 killed in attacks in eastern Congo - official

KINSHASA (Reuters) - At least 27 people were killed and another seven people seriously injured in overnight raids on villages near the eastern Congolese town of Beni, local officials said on Thursday. Julien Paluku, governor of North Kivu province, blamed the attack on Ugandan ADF-NALU rebels that operate alongside a string of other local and foreign armed groups in Democratic Republic of Congo's mineral-rich eastern border zone.
