Russia and Ukraine reach tentative gas deal in tough Milan talks

MILAN (Reuters) - Russia and Ukraine made progress on Friday towards resolving a row over gas supplies, but European leaders said Moscow had to do much more to prop up a fragile ceasefire and end fighting in eastern Ukraine. The mooted deal aimed at re-opening Russian gas supplies to Ukraine ahead of the cold winter months came as something of a surprise following an initial round of talks in Milan that the Kremlin said was "full of misunderstandings and disagreements". However, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said a subsequent meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin and the leaders of France and German had made some headway in defusing a crisis that has revived memories of Cold War enmity. #Business #facebook #Japan #France #Arabic #Russia #markets #Italy #Argentina #european #russian #opinion

Finland says Russian navy interfered with Baltic Sea research vessel

HELSINKI (Reuters) - The Russian navy twice interfered with a Finnish state environmental research vessel in international waters in August and September, the Finnish Environment Institute said on Saturday. The statement comes after Finland accused Russia, its eastern neighbour and former ruler, of violating its airspace three times in less than a week in August. Finland's foreign ministry said it was concerned by the preliminary information it had received about the incidents and that Finnish defence forces were investigating. #facebook #India #Pakistan #Technology #France #Arabic #markets #Latin America #russian #opinion

Ex-Soviet states bicker as Putin tries to unite them

MINSK (Reuters) - Vulgar chants about Vladimir Putin before he arrived for a regional summit in Belarus did not augur well for the Russian president's hopes of bringing the leaders of former Soviet republics closer together. Matters got even worse when bickering broke out at the start of the meeting, revealing fault lines over the Ukraine crisis and deepening doubts about the future of the loose grouping known as the Commonwealth of Independent States #United States #Pakistan #Brazil #France #Russia #Latin America #Ukraine #russian #opinion

Ceasefire offers hope to Russian candy factory owned by Ukraine leader

LIPETSK Russia (Reuters) - Now that their boss, Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko, has finally shaken hands with Russia's Vladimir Putin, the staff running the lone Russian factory in Poroshenko's chocolate empire can finally see better days ahead. Since March, when Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea peninsula and pro-Russian rebels rose up in eastern Ukraine, the Lipetsk Confectionary Factory has been raided by armed police, boycotted and accused by Russian politicians of supporting extremism. Its accounts were frozen, its books combed over by the tax authorities and its directors repeatedly interrogated and threatened with jail for conspiring to profit off chocolate illegally named for a songbird. #facebook #India #Brazil #Technology #Arabic #Middle East #Russia #markets #United Kingdom #Mexico #russian
