Russia blacklists four more U.S. citizens in retaliatory move

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russia said on Thursday it had barred four more U.S. citizens from its territory in retaliation for Washington's decision to expand the number of Russians blacklisted over suspected human rights abuses. Last month, the United States added four names to the so-called Magnitsky list, named after lawyer Sergei Magnitsky who died in a Russian jail in 2009 after uncovering tax fraud allegedly involving Russian officials. #facebook #Brazil #France #Arabic #markets #United Kingdom #Latin America #Mexico #russian #opinion

Opposition blogger may have "outed" Putin's daughter

MOSCOW (Reuters) - One of Vladimir Putin's main opponents may have broken a taboo by publishing what he says it the pseudonym used by one the Russian president's daughters to stay out of the spotlight. Putin has made his and his family's private life little less than a state secret, keeping his rarely-photographed daughters Yekaterina, 28, and Maria, 29, out of sight and managing his divorce with the minimum fuss. But opposition blogger Alexei Navalny on Thursday published on his Facebook page an online report which identified a certain Katerina Vladimirovna Tikhonova as the head of an organization working with Moscow State University #Business #facebook #India #Italy #United Kingdom #Latin America #author #russian

Ukraine rebels move to encircle government troops in new advance

KIEV/ST PETERSBURG (Reuters) - Russian-backed rebels advanced to encircle a Ukrainian army garrison town on Monday in a new offensive that has again unleashed all-out war after a five-month ceasefire and brought threats of new Western sanctions against Moscow. The United States and the European Union are considering new measures after accusing Russia of openly supporting the latest rebel advance with money, arms and troops on the ground. Ambassadors of NATO countries and Ukraine met in Brussels on Monday to discuss a response to the fighting, their first such emergency meeting since August. #Business #facebook #India #China #Technology #markets #United Kingdom #author #european #russian

NATO chief ready to meet Russia's Lavrov in February

PRISTINA (Reuters) - NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Friday he was ready to meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov next month in Munich, as fighting escalates in eastern Ukraine. Russian-backed separatists in eastern Ukraine on Friday ruled out joining more peace talks and said they would push on with a new offensive to seize territory from government forces. In an interview with Reuters, Stoltenberg described a "substantial increase in Russian heavy equipment" in Ukraine, supplying a conflict that the United Nations says has killed more than 5,000 people, including 262 in the last nine days. #facebook #United States #India #France #Arabic #Middle East #Russia #markets #Argentina #author #russian
