Iran's supreme leader calls for end to "murderous" Israeli regime

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday called for a referendum canvassing the Arabs and Jews that live in Israel in order to end the "Zionist state", but said until such a vote could be held, armed resistance was necessary. Khamenei and his predecessor the Ayatollah Rouhollah Khomeini have called repeatedly over the years for an end to the Jewish state, including through a referendum in the region, where Palestinians are in the majority. No quick decision seen on tougher EU sanctions on Russia

BRUSSELS (Reuters) - European Union ambassadors will debate proposals on Thursday on restricting Russian access to Europe's capital markets and defence and energy technology but are not expected to make a quick decision. Sierra Leone's chief Ebola doctor contracts the virus

FREETOWN (Reuters) - The head doctor fighting the deadly tropical virus Ebola in Sierra Leone has himself caught the disease, the government said. The 39-year-old Sheik Umar Khan, hailed as a "national hero" by the health ministry, was leading the fight to control an outbreak that has killed 206 people in the West African country.
