Exclusive: U.S. to downgrade Myanmar in annual human trafficking report - sources | Reuters

WASHINGTON/YANGON The United States has decided to place Myanmar on its global list of worst offenders in human trafficking, officials said, a move aimed at prodding the country’s new democratically elected government and its still-powerful military to do more to curb the use of child soldiers and forced labour. The reprimand of Myanmar comes despite U.S. efforts to court the strategically important country to help counteract China’s rise in the region and build a Southeast Asian bulwark against Beijing’s territorial assertiveness in the South China Sea #Economy #Business #Innovation #United Kingdom #Entertainment #civil rights

Chile's government, in major defeat, will cease work on key labour reform | Reuters

SANTIAGO Chile's government admitted defeat on a major bill on Friday, saying it will not try to revive any measures of President Michelle Bachelet's landmark labour reform that were struck down by a court. The reform, aimed at strengthening organised labour in the South American country, was initially passed by the Senate in March after a bruising battle that opened divisions within the governing Nueva Mayoria coalition #Sports #Economy #Health #Chile #Innovation #United Kingdom

Trump says he will revoke Washington Post's credentials to cover campaign | Reuters

WASHINGTON Republican Donald Trump said on Monday he will no longer issue press credentials to the Washington Post, stopping the publication from gaining access to press areas at his presidential campaign events. "Based on the incredibly inaccurate coverage and reporting of the record setting Trump campaign, we are hereby revoking the press credentials of the phoney and dishonest Washington Post," Trump wrote on Facebook. The Washington Post, one of the nation's largest newspapers, has assigned a team of reporters to produce a book about Trump that is scheduled to be released later this year #United States #science #Argentina #Innovation #Entertainment #publishing

SHANGHAI Fourteen people are missing after a leisure boat capsized in strong winds on a lake in southwest China's Sichuan province on Saturday, the official Xinhua news agency said, citing the local government. Rescuers have pulled four people from the lake since the boat carrying 18 passengers capsized in the afternoon in "strong gales", the local district government said in a statement. The disaster has echoes of a far larger disaster last year, where 442 people perished and only 12 survived when a cruise ship in the Yangtze River capsized in a freak storm. #Economy #Middle East #Africa #Argentina #Innovation

Some EU citizens mistakenly registered to vote in Britain's referendum | Reuters

LONDON A small number of European Union citizens have mistakenly received notification that they are registered to vote in Britain's EU membership referendum but they will not be allowed to do so, the electoral watchdog said on Thursday. "Out" campaigner and former government minister Iain Duncan Smith wrote to Prime Minister David Cameron and the Electoral Commission earlier raising concerns over reports some EU citizens had been sent polling cards despite not being eligible to vote in the June 23 referendum. With polls showing Britons are evenly split over which way to vote, a narrow win for "In" could result in pro-Brexit campaigners questioning the way the referendum was conducted. #Economy #India #Business #Syria #Argentina #Innovation

Prototype space station module begins inflating on NASA's second try | Reuters

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. Astronauts aboard the International Space Station on Saturday slowly inflated an experimental fabric module that may provide a less expensive and safer option for housing crews during long stays in space, a NASA TV broadcast showed. An initial attempt to unfurl the module on Thursday failed, most likely because of friction within the module's layers of fabric, foam and reinforced outer covering, NASA said. #Economy #Business #Middle East #markets #Innovation #United Kingdom #Entertainment
