Singapore tells airlines to review conflict zone risk assessment

SINGAPORE/KUALA LUMPUR (Reuters) - Singapore's civil aviation authority has asked airlines based in the city-state to review their risk assessment of conflict zones following the shooting down of a Malaysia Airlines jetliner over Ukraine last week. The deaths of nearly 300 passengers and crew in the downing of Flight MH17 have shocked the aviation industry and prompted calls for a re-think on assessing the threat to planes flying thousands of metres above fighting on the ground #India #Business #Japan #Arabic #Russia #markets #Latin America #opinion #city

Wave of bombings in Baghdad kill 27 people - police, medics

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - At least 27 people were killed in a wave of bombings in mostly Shi'ite Muslim areas of Baghdad on Saturday, police and medics said, in the deadliest day of attacks in the capital since a Sunni insurgency overran large parts of Iraq's north last month. In the first explosion, a suicide car bomber drove into a police checkpoint, killing nine people including seven policemen and wounding 21 people in the Abu Dsheer district in the south of the capital, the sources said. Four other car bombs killed a total of 19 people: one in the Bayaa district in southwestern Baghdad, one in the western district of Jihad and two in northern Baghdad's Kadhimiya, the site of a major Shi'ite shrine #facebook #United States #India #Business #Japan #Technology #France #Arabic #Russia #United Kingdom #Mexico #city
