Pope Francis plays long game to reform Catholic Church

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - After winning praise around the world for his fresh and open style, the honeymoon period seems to be over for Pope Francis. A tumultuous two-week Vatican synod exposed polarisation in the Catholic Church over his push to reform its traditional approach to sexual morality by becoming more welcoming to gays and easing restrictions on divorced and remarried Catholics. A Jesuit unafraid of frank debate, Francis has set off a clash of opinions not seen since the reformist Second Vatican Council of 1962-1965. #United States #Japan #Brazil #Technology #France #Arabic #Africa #Argentina #Church #opinion

Conservatives want changes to Vatican document on family, gays

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - Conservative Roman Catholic prelates on Tuesday vowed to change a controversial Vatican document that held out the possibility of a major shift in the Church's attitude towards homosexuals. The document, issued on Monday, said homosexuals had "gifts and qualities to offer" and asked if Catholicism could accept gays and recognise positive aspects of same-sex couples. In a dramatic change in tone from past condemnatory language, it said the Church should challenge itself to find "a fraternal space" for homosexuals without compromising Catholic doctrine on family and matrimony. #facebook #India #Japan #Brazil #France #markets #Argentina #Mexico #Church #opinion #conservatives #conservative

Have Bandra's xenophobes forgotten their own history?

Cultural mixing, despite its Catholic image, has always been characteristic of Bandra. Now some Catholics in the queen of Mumbai's suburbs are beginning to resent that very fact. #InThisCorner #Bandra #Castella de Aguada #St. Andrew's Church #catholics
