Shambolic election campaign leaves Indonesia's president-elect much to prove

JAKARTA (Reuters) - When he was nominated in March as a candidate for Indonesia's presidential election, polls showed Joko "Jokowi" Widodo had a 30-point lead over the man who would become his main challenger, former army general Prabowo Subianto. But after three months of shambolic and lacklustre campaigning, the wildly popular governor of Jakarta was staring at defeat. "If you continue like this, it's clear we will lose," prominent businessman Sofjan Wanandi told Widodo and senior members of his Indonesian Democratic-Party of Struggle (PDI-P)at a crisis meeting on June 16. #Yahoo! #content #wcnts #wcntn #undefined #cookie #values #rco #aut #rch #typeof-registered #cnt

Yemen government offers to resign to end Houthi protests - source

SANAA (Reuters) - Yemen's government offered on Saturday to resign within a month and to review an unpopular decision to cut fuel subsidies, in an attempt to end protests by the Shi'ite Houthi movement, a government source told Reuters. Tens of thousands of Yemenis massed in the capital Sanaa on Friday in a protest called by the Houthis to demand the government's resignation and a reversal of the subsidy cuts. The rally came at the end of a week of demonstrations that have piled pressure on President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who has struggled to keep order in the U.S.-allied country which borders major oil exporter Saudi Arabia #Yahoo! #content #wcnts #typeof-social #undefined #cookie #values #aut #rch #typeof-registered #cnt
