Hong Kong protests approach potential National Day flashpoint

HONG KONG (Reuters) Thousands of prodemocracy protesters thronged the streets of Hong Kong early on Wednesday, ratcheting up pressure on the proBeijing government that has called the action illegal and vowed to press ahead with National Day celebrations. There was little sign of momentum flagging on the fifth day of a determined mass campaign to occupy sections of the city and to express fury at a Chinese decision to limit voters' choices in a 2017 leadership election. That was despite widespread fears that police may use force to move crowds before the start of celebrations marking the anniversary of the Communist Party's foundation of the People's Republic of China in 1949 #Yahoo! #content #wcntn #undefined #cookie #values #rch #typeof-registered #cnt

Bill Gates warns Ebola could spread beyond West Africa

WASHINGTON (Thomson Reuters Foundation) It is impossible to guess whether world leaders have done enough to bring the Ebola epidemic under control, given the risks that it will spread to countries beyond West Africa, the technology billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates said on Monday. Countries should get ready to handle a possible outbreak of the deadly hemorrhagic fever in case it spreads further as people from Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea move across borders, Gates said at a breakfast meeting sponsored by the newspaper Politico and Bank of America #Yahoo! #content #wcnts #wcntn #typeof-social #undefined #cookie #rco #rch #typeof-registered
